Tired of all the hate? Here’s an alternative—Love Revolution Now! On September 9 & 10, we launched a revolutionary movement of ordinary people—devoted to Jesus and to living a life of love, just as He has loved us!
This revolutionary movement has its roots in the New Commandment Jesus gave us—strategically introduced on the same evening he announced the New Covenant. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34 NIV)
The significance of this New Commandment was underscored when Jesus owned it as “my commandment” later in the evening. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15;12” NIV)
Furthermore, Jesus made it clear that our love for one another was to be an observable, identifying mark—there for all to see! “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35 NIV)
Sadly, the New Covenant and New Commandment—meant to be inextricably linked—drifted apart early in Christian history. The New Commandment was absent from our early creeds, historic confessions of faith and presently missing from many of our statements of faith and practice. We kept the New Covenant but have neglected the New Commandment.
While loving one another within this family of faith is core, the love doesn’t stop there. Jesus taught us that we are to love even those who have declared themselves our enemies. “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:43-45 NIV)
Love Revolution Now is a focused movement of ordinary people who are devoted to Jesus and to making his commandment their lifestyle. To paraphrase Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, it’s about “being imitators of God . . . as dearly loved children and living a life of love, just as Christ loved us . . .” (Ephesians 5:12 NIV) Love Revolution Now is about this lifestyle—the Jesus lifestyle! It’s all about learning to live a life of love, just as Jesus has loved us.
Join the revolution! Invite your friends to come with you. We are going full-circle, back to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith—His New Covenant and New Commandment! “Love each other as I have loved you.”
